The Business Show 2013 – ExCeL London

This year was my first year attending The Business Show and it was honestly much better than I had expected. The event took place in ExCeL London, a venue situated in the East of London.

There were a large array of business filling the open halls ranging from guidance on filing patents, to business planning and branding workshops. Every workshop and seminar I attended was very insightful. Starting a business is a daunting process but sitting in, taking meticulous notes and getting engaged with the workshops made the whole prospect of starting a business in the future far more satisfying.

The whole experience gave me a better understanding on how to approach the business world, to ensure that before you can run you must learn how to walk. Despite the fact that I was already aware of this, planning is essential. Composing a business plan is a fundamental element of ensuring that you and the people around you are aware of which direction the business is heading in. During The Business Show, it was evident from the speakers that I had listened to, that so many people fall at this most crucial hurdle in business. It was made very clear that the business plan does not need to be hundreds of pages long but something that you can refer back to and to show potential investors where your business is headed.

I have always had a reasonable interest about the world of business and having attended the event I am more grown on the idea of starting up my own business in the future. Despite the fact that it was a very long day, a lot of walking around and sitting down, interacting with a lot of people, I would really urge people to attend any future Business Shows. Everything you could possibly think of within the world of business is under one roof. Areas such as finance, marketing and investment (just to name a few) were all encompassed in the vast space dedicated to The Business Show.

The best part about the event is that exhibitors are willing to help, they are willing to listen to you and to try to advise you in the best possible way they can. On top of that, The Business Show is also a great way to meet new people who may have already started their own business and form new contacts. There are speed networking sessions (consisting of two-minute meetings) and business connections where you can pin up your contact details and areas of expertise you are looking for (for example a web designer) in the light that someone may be looking for some part-time or full-time employment.

I look forward to hopefully being able to attend The Business Show again in the future.
