Creative Digital Detox Day

Today in the design studio it was a ‘Creative Digital Detox Day’.

The idea behind the ‘digital detoxification’ was to enhance our creativity without being easily distracted from looking down at our smartphones or browsing on laptops and tablets and so on.

I will be the first to admit that I rarely go to places without my phone but that is because of e-mails, staying updated with the world via social media and maybe if I come across something that interests me I might want to read up on it, make a note or take a picture.

But… as it is only one day I guess it wouldn’t hurt too much!

I equipped myself with my pencil case, sketch pad and went into the design studio.

I mentioned in a recent blog post that our Product Ideation module has just started and therefore during the first couple of hours I was mind-mapping some product ideas that I am going to develop during the rest of this module.

After a short refreshment break we had the luxury of having life drawing set up for us for a few hours.

To me, this was a new experience one which was slightly outside of my comfort zone. Perhaps the reason for this being outside my comfort zone is because I don’t particularly like to rush my work. However, as the session went on I began to enjoy it more and definitely look forward to the upcoming sessions in the next few weeks.

This weeks first session was split into three parts:

  • Five, three minute poses
  • Three, ten minute poses
  • One, thirty minute pose.

After that, it was time for another refreshment break and then the final grind in the design studio until it was time to leave.

It was definitely a very productive day. Every once in a while it is good to digitally disconnect.
